It’s hard for me too” – Understanding substance use and addiction

Many family members and friends of people using drugs or alcohol find it hard to know how to respond to and cope with the situation. This short informal course helps to understand concerns others have to understand substance use, the law, services to support people to reduce or stop drug or alcohol use.

Duration: 4 weeks (27th February, 5th, 12th & 19th March)

Who is this course for?
Anyone concerned about a loved one’s substance use.

Weekly Breakdown

Week One – Understanding substances
Week Two – Models of addiction
Week Three – Communication
Week Four – Boundaries

What carers will get from this course

  • Increased understanding of substances and their effects.
  • Increased knowledge of services and supports for people using substances and their supporters.
  • To develop their own coping strategies.
  • An opportunity to meet others in similar situations.
