Poet and carer Pen Reid reads from her collection of poetry.
Duration: 1 week
Who is this course for?
Anyone who enjoys the spoken word, music or theatre.
Poet Pen Reid’s journey towards being mentored and published by Appletree Writer’s Press in 2016, began as a Carer’s Grant from VOCAL in 2014 to attend creative writing classes. Her first collection ’Invalid’ speaks to anyone who faces disability and disease whether as patient, carer, family member or friend. Although addressing the struggles of caring ultimately Reid’s portrait is optimistic, and although the overarching narrative is domestic, Invalid finds much of its symbolism in nature. Reid has performed her work at 2016 Edinburgh Fringe to a 5* review and the publication of her collection received enthusiastic reviews. Pen Reid will be performing her Fringe show for us accompanied by live music. She is passionate about the therapeutic power of writing poetry and following will be an opportunity to discuss the possibilities of poetry as a tool to voice our personal experience and even some (non compulsory!) poetry writing.
What carers will get from this course
