This event is open to carers residing in or caring for a person in Edinburgh and Midlothian.

When: Wednesday 21 August, 10am – 12pm

About the event:

This is a chance to find out what to expect during transition, along with information, tools and tips that can help when caring for a child with Additional Support Needs (ASN). It’s especially useful if you are caring for someone aged 14-18.

Transition means change – and for young people with ASN, growing up is one of the biggest changes they face. It’s not just about leaving school, it’s building a life that works, and families and close friends are on the journey too. It can be hard work at times, but preparation and planning really make a difference. This is a chance to find out what to expect, along with information, tools and tips that can help. It’s especially useful if your young person is 14-18, but it’s never too early – or too late – to plan for the future.

Delivered by:

Tracey Francis, Policy and Development Worker for ARC Scotland, and co-facilitator of the Scottish Transitions Forum. She has worked for children’s and young people’s charities in Scotland for more than 20 years, specialising in the transition to adulthood of young people with additional support needs and its lasting impact on them and their families or carers. Before joining ARC Scotland she worked for Contact, developing and launching the Talking About Tomorrow website to give parents and carers essential, Scotland-specific information on planning and preparing for transition.
