About the event: Thinking about getting a job after caring – or alongside it? This friendly, practical session is for carers who are starting to explore their next steps towards work, education or training.

In this session, we will look at:
• How to talk about your caring experience in a positive way
• What to do about gaps in your CV
• Education, training and funding opportunities you might not know about
• Where to go for extra support

There will also be time to ask questions and share thoughts. Whether you’re just starting to think about work or already have ideas, this session is a great place to begin.

When: Wednesday 3 September and Wednesday 10 September, 10:30am – 12pm. 

About the event:In this two-part workshop, you will learn the art of embroidery and embellishment to upcycle an item of your clothing or accessory. All basics will be covered including hoops, threads, buttons, beads and stitches. Bring along your item for upcycling and all other materials will be provided.

Week 1 – We’ll cover the basics – embroidery hoops, threads, needles, buttons, beads and of course the stitches.

Week 2 – Using the skills you started to learn last week we’ll embroider and embellish your chosen item so you’ll have a unique, one of a kind item to wear with pride.

Please bring along your item for decorating to both sessions so we can plan as we go.

Delivered by: Eilidh Scott is a knitting and crafting enthusiast. She runs relaxed and informal ‘knit along’ short courses for adults and children. She loves to deliver community events, from weaving to pompoms and giant French knitting. You can find out more about Eilidh on her website.

About the event: This session is for anyone who is interested in learning more about supporting people who self-harm. It is delivered in a webinar-style with a presentation and time at the end for questions.

• What is self-harm?
• Who self-harms?
• How do people self-harm?
• Functions of self-harm
• Starting the conversation about self-harm
• Resources and support available

Delivered by: This session will be delivered by Frankee Fouin from Self-Harm Network Scotland Practice Development Team. Self-Harm Network Scotland is passionate about raising awareness and reducing stigma around self-harm. Their aim is to develop and deliver informative and accessible training and resources to help improve understanding of self-harm.

When: Wednesday 20 Aug, 6pm – 7pm

About the event: Join us to practise mindfulness with others in a supportive and communal setting. This group is open to anyone, whether you’re looking for a space to practise or are a beginner.

Meeting monthly, we will offer a unique experience that can deepen your practice and provide a sense of connection. We may include a mindfulness walk if weather permits and the full group are happy to do so. No need to attend every month, book separately each month. This group will be on the third Wednesday of the month. About the event:The Bladder and Bowel Nursing Team specialise in bladder and bowel assessment, treatment and management. They provide advice and support to those caring for people with bladder and bowel problems. Join us online to ask questions, discuss products, and gain practical tips around supporting someone with continence issues.

Incontinence is defined as the involuntary loss of urine and/or faeces that can have a devastating effect upon the physical, social and psychological wellbeing of the person and can significantly impact their quality of life. Incontinence is not a disease, but a symptom of an underlying condition which can be treated in many cases.

It’s estimated that 14 million people in the UK have bladder control problems. Less than half of those will seek help and advice. Approximately 80% of urinary incontinence can be cured or significantly improved after a complete assessment. The Bladder and Bowel Nursing Team are specialists in bladder and bowel assessment, treatment and management. This session is a space to ask questions, discuss products, and gain practical tips around supporting someone with continence issues. Please note, the Bladder and Bowel Nursing team only assesses and treats adults. Children need to be assessed and treated by school nurses or health visitors.

About the event:This group is a welcoming space for parents or those caring for a child or adult with Additional Support Needs (ASN). No diagnosis required. This informal group provides a safe space for open discussions about the most important issues to you and the chance to connect with others. 

This group meets monthly, but there is no need to attend every month. Once carers have linked into the group they will receive regular updates on information and advice in relation to caring for children and adults with ASN.

About the event: This workshop aims to raise awareness of the common benefits that support older people, including: Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance, Carer Support Payment, Housing Benefit and Council Tax reduction. It covers the eligibility criteria and how to make a claim.

About the event:Join Frazer on this online workshop for accessible mindfulness meditation and kindness for all, including complete beginners. A tailored chat, poem, and gentle meditation will help to bring you some presence and peace.

Delivered by: Dr Frazer McGlinchey PhD (Cantab). Frazer works on raising the level of kindness we treat ourselves and each other with. He is a mindfulness meditation teacher, collaborator for parties with purpose, and a teaching fellow, who works with a range of businesses and organisations, as well as 1:1 coaching.

About the event: Come along and have some time for you! Meet with other carers for a cuppa and a blether, or join in an activity such as crafts or jenga.

All carers registered with VOCAL are welcome. Refreshments provided at no charge to carers. Activities may vary each month, any suggestions welcome. No need to attend every month, book separately each month. A VOCAL representative will be in attendance (with their VOCAL t-shirt on). About the event: Caring for someone can be challenging. Learn more about the impact of caring on your emotional wellbeing and how to develop strategies to self-regulate and cope with difficulties.

Each week Jeanne-Marie will tackle different topics including managing worry, unhelpful thinking styles, rumination, emotional regulation and dealing with guilt and anger. She’ll provide you with ideas for useful strategies, tools and techniques to support you on your caring journey.
