About the event: Do you care for a child with additional support needs? Planning ahead for the future is essential to ensure that any inheritance that the child receives from parents is used for the benefit of the child and is not swallowed up by care costs.

In this session Greg Douglas, Associate, Caesar & Howie, Solicitors & Estate Agents will explore the options available to parent carers in order to avoid monies being lost to the child due to forward planning.

About the event: Dealing with the loss of someone is a difficult time. This session will prepare you for all you need to know including funeral planning. This relaxed informal session led by Valerie from Dignity Funeral Plans will explain what steps to take when someone dies.

About the event: Do you care for a child with additional support needs? This session is designed to help parents navigate through the legal process of Power of Attorney or Guardianship when their child is reaching or has become 16 years of age. This can appear to be a daunting time for some parents, however, Martin Monaghan, Head of Civil Court Department at Caesar & Howie (founders of Parent Carers Legal Support) will deliver a step by step account of what happens and when.

The Handy Guide for Parent Carers will be available to all attendees as a supplementary publication to this presentation.  A PDF copy of the presentation will also be available on completion of the very short online feedback form following the presentation.

There will also be an opportunity to take up a free initial consultation session on Guardianship or Wills and Trusts via Parents Carers Legal Support at a later date.

About the event: This session aims to increase your understanding of the behaviour of the person you care for. Learn practical ways to mange difficult behaviour and situations. After this session you will :

• Be able to define what is meant by ‘behaviour’
• Be able to explain how internal and external factors influence behaviour
• Discuss how to create a positive environment to stimulate positive behaviour
• Strategies for managing behaviour
• Understand our own behaviours.

About the event: In this session, a member of the welfare and income maximisation team for Into Work will provide information on local initiatives and financial wellbeing. The aim of this session is to help you maximise your income and entitlements. Topics include household budgeting, inexpensive energy saving tips, impact on benefits and household income of any future paid work, working and sustainability when supplemented by benefits, emergency funding and support schemes like discounted broadband. There will be an opportunity for questions and a one to one if requested.

About the event: Join other carers and experience a Sound Bath. A Sound Bath session will help you to relax your body, mind and soul. Bathe in the vibrations of the crystal bowls leaving you feeling recharged. Get super comfortable and cosy on the mat then allow the sound to encompass you as you float into a beautiful blissful state, allowing you to leave the studio feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Please bring a bottle of water to keep you hydrated. We have all the equipment and mats you need at the studio.

This month we will be joined by Sarah McGillivray, Young Adult Carers Transition Worker – Sarah will introduce her new role at Midlothian Young Carers Project, her hopes for the project in future and will provide information on the young carers statement and ask for feedback from the group. Johan Henderson, VOCAL Midlothian Parent Carer Support Practitioner will introduce herself and inform the group about her role at VOCAL Midlothian
